The Specialised Information Service Cartography and Geodata (SIS Maps) has its foundation in the Map Department of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin and is a project funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – DFG).

The Map Department, as Germany‘s documentation centre, covers the subject fields of cartography and geoinformation. Along with analogue holdings of more than one million map sheets, atlases, globes and cartographic literature, the department offers services which are targeted directly to current research projects.
